Dilli Gang

Story: The film is about the plight of senior citizens who feel lonely and unsafe in cities, after their children choose to settle abroad for better career opportunities.

Review: Dilli gang delves into the day-to-day problems that ageing parents face, after their ambitious children abandon them so that they could focus on their high-paying jobs in other countries. Director Ashish Tyagi sheds light on a highly relevant topic for this modern day dilemma has been plaguing our society. While all parents want their children to be successful, they do not wish to be left alone, especially in old age. Law Minister Kapil Sibbal's poems add to the message, this film attempts to send across to all those children, who are too busy to notice that their parents need them.

An elderly couple residing in Delhi (Nina Kulkarni, Darshan Jariwala) faces similar issue, when their son Ashish ( Amir Dalvi), who's based in Germany for business, rarely visits them. To add to their woes, is the rise in crimes committed against senior citizens in the capital. Cut to another track, we see a four-member-gang, who is perpetually on the lookout for senior citizens, whom they can loot and then kill. Sadly, the crime track is the least effective.

Besides, the two tracks fail to blend easily. The family sub-plot is highly emotional and manages to touch your heart, thanks to Nina Kulkarni and Darshan Jariwala's heartrending performances, while the whole cop investigating the case and the criminals roaming around freely, in search of new targets or new 'mummy-papa' as they keep saying throughout the movie looks way too feeble.

Overall, an ineffective execution fails to do justice to the good intent and solid performances.

Aditya Chopra, Rani Mukerji and their respective mothers were seen celebrating Diwali at the Chopra residence. Their common close friend Karan Johar was also present. Yash Chopra passed away in October 2012, and traditionally a wedding cannot take place in the family for a year.

Deepika Padukone reveals her love secrets

Actress Deepika Padukone, whose sizzling onscreen chemistry with Ram-Leela co-star Ranveer Singh is talk of the town, says her notions about romance are very traditional.

The 27-year-old actress is playing a free-spirited girl opposite Ranveer in the musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet.

"I believe in the old school form of love, which I have seen growing up with my parents and my extended family. I am very traditional when it comes to love, marriage and relationships. This is because I do not know any other way as I have been brought up like this," Deepika said.

For the actress, who has collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the first time, has been the most difficult film in her career.

"Ram Leela has been the most difficult film that I have done. This is because I had to go on the shoot like a blank slate everyday and he (Bhansali) would mould me. I would go on the sets and take the day as it came. So, it was unnerving because you don't know how the day would go," she said.

Deepika has given powerful dance performances in the film but she did not undergo any formal training to polish her dance moves.

"Fortunately or unfortunately I have never needed to take any kind of formal training. I learnt Bharatnatyam when I was in school. It's not that I learnt it specifically for the films.

"Before Om Shanti Om, I went for Kathak classes for about six months, after that I think with every other song that I have done in movies, I rehearse before we go to shoot but there is no formal training," she added.

It has been a busy year for Deepika, who has given back-to-back hits with Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express. However, she does not intend to take a break and would be filming her third film with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year.

"It has definitely been an exhausting year. I had been juggling Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela. But the results of these movies have been great and I am happy about it. In terms of the amount of work I am doing or the pace at which I am working, I am loving it. I think I am almost workaholic.

"There is no point in a day when I am not thinking about work, or something that is related to work. The only thing I regret is not spending enough time with my family," she added.

Main Krishna Hoon

Main Krishna Hoon suffers from the lack of a strong plot. Good intentions, Juhi Chawla's presence or the cameos by Hrithik and Katrina do not save the film. Skip it.

Free Birds

Free Birds is unsatisfying in terms of innovation or laughs. A forgettable animation film.

Sunny gives Sanjay a tough time

The item girl reportedly filled the sets with her tantrums
More on: Filmfare, Sunny Leone, Sanjay Gupta

Though Sunny Leone is barely one Hindi film old, the adult film star has developed quite an attitude. And Sanjay Gupta was at the receiving end of it recently, while he shot an item song with her for his next, Shootout At Wadala. Apparently, Sunny gave him such a tough time while shooting the song that he has sworn never to work with her again. It seems that her never-ending demands even made the unit break out in a sweat. Looks like Sunny is in dire need of a reality check.

It's a great feeling to start work on time" - Sanjay Dutt

Someone once called me the male Sonam Kapoor" - Imran Khan

The ultimate king of cool, Imran Khan is dapper and flamboyant in equal measure. Carriage. Attitude. Swagger. Imran’s got it all. He dresses smart; he dresses to his strengths and he dresses effortlessly. Following in the footsteps of style icons Paul Newman and James Dean, he believes that the magic of an outfit lies in the fit. “If it’s baggy, too tight or looks like something your grandfather might have worn, don’t bother with it,” he jokes. Khan has a number of inventive red-carpet suits and well-put-together casual ensembles. No one’s as classy. Always managing to look like he’s walked straight out of a fashion magazine, the dishy actor tells Filmfare what style truly means to him.

Style philosophy
Fashion is for followers. Style is for leaders. Fashion changes every season. Style is inherent. For me, it’s never about the trend. It’s about finding timeless pieces. One should dress in such a way that the look seems timeless. It should belong to the past as well as to the future. That’s my goal. 20 years down the line I don’t want to look at my photographs and cringe. I still rag my parents about the bell-bottoms they wore 30 years ago. That was the fashion back then. This is why I don’t follow fashion blindly.

Male Sonam Kapoor
One of my friends joked that I am the male version of Sonam Kapoor. Probably, because she’s a fashionista and also because I was being honoured with many awards for being best dressed those days. I like what Sonam does with her clothes. If you’re getting out of the house and forcing people to look at you, then at least make the effort to dress well. Otherwise stay at home.

Suited for winning
It takes no time to put on suits. If you have the right fit, you’re good to go and it seems you have made an effort to dress up. The beauty of a good suit is that it makes men look better. It makes your chest and shoulders look broader. It makes your waist look leaner. What a sari is to a woman, a suit is to a man. I am amazed why people don’t wear them more often. It enhances what should be enhanced and hides the imperfections. But the fit is very important. Without the right fit, the suit falls flat. The best compliment someone once gave me was that I wear my suits like James Bond. I believe everyone should do that.

Customised clothes
All my suits are custom-made from Zegna and Tom Ford. I never pick up a suit off the rack. In fact, most of my stuff is custom-made – trousers, shirts, casual pants, chinos, etc. Style and lifestyle guru Govinda Mehta makes most of my stuff. If I can get custom-made trousers at the same price as Zara’s clothes, why should I buy something readymade? Also, that way, I can select my fabric, colour, etc.

Vintage rocks
When I’m abroad, I love going to vintage stores and buying one off pieces. I pick up sunglasses and watches. I only shop for unique stuff otherwise I buy most things online. Sometimes Avantika (wife) gets me something when she goes abroad. In ondon, there is this place called The Vintage Showroom, it has great clothes. During World War II, there was this company called North Sea Clothing. They were commissioned by the Navy to make sweaters. For submarines, there was one kind of sweater, for engineers, there was another and for the marines, there was yet another type. They designed it in navy blue and cream. It was a small company, so it got defunct. The Vintage Showroom has a lot of their dead stock – things that were made but not sold and are still brand new.

Ultimate style icon
Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Michael Caine, John Lennon, James Dean … Most of my personal style is inspired by these guys. If you look back at their pictures, you’ll see how stylish they still seem even after 30 to 40 years.

Signature look
Trousers are comfortable and stylish and look smart with t-shirts. One thing I need to have in my wardrobe are light-coloured pants. Beige and white to be precise. Also, I own quite a few brogues because they go with everything.

Mistakes men make
Men assume that jeans work with anything. That is a fallacy. Also, guys assume that shoes are irrelevant. So you go to office wearing a pair of shoes, come home and change your shirt but continue wearing the same shoes and jeans. You can’t wear the same stuff with everything just because you like it. It has to go with your shirt and your entire ensemble.

Top tip for men
Men shouldn’t overdo it because then it looks like they are trying too hard. Wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you. You can’t wear a cap, put a feather on it and wear a scarf, a pocket square, a funky belt and a bracelet. You’ll end up looking like you’re wearing a costume. You should look like you are in charge of your clothes and not vice versa.

Past bloopers
My baggy pants phase was the weirdest phase I went through. I guess quite a few teenagers go through that phase. I used to wear comic character boxers underneath. So when my boxers would show, I thought it looked cool. I even had orange hair at one point. I had coloured my hair like flames. Once, I shaved my head in stripes. I looked like a squirrel back then. By the time I was 20, these phases passed. Thank God!

Most stylish film of all-time
The Brother’s Bloom has got some of the best styling I have seen in a film. All the characters are wearing well-fitted clothes. Also, The Talented Mr Ripley is a very stylish film. It has got that Mediterranean-Italian touch. The film shows tailored clothes worn in a casual, don’t-care way. The stuff doesn’t look done up, which is so cool.

“I’ll get married six times” - Priyanka Chopra

Meet Bridezilla. Her ideas of getting hitched are as ginormous as a monster laying waste to civilization. Priyanka Chopra wants to get married six times, to the same man, of course. Just for effect. She wants a destination wedding, she wants a big fat Indian wedding, she wants a Vegas wedding and she wants to marry on top of a mountain. Talk about bridal greed! On a serious note, Priyanka is quite possibly the most adventurous bride waiting to be in the country. And when she finally takes to the altar or the mandap or does a nikah, she will not hold back. Priyanka wants to throw the kitchen sink at tying the knot. She will assemble her entire Punjabi family and she’ll summon every friend in the world. It’ll be quite the sight and we reckon the most priceless thing at that historic evening will be Priyanka’s million dollar grin. Read on to find out every possible way a person could say their wedding vows.

“The ideal scenario would be to get married six times…”
While I may not be thinking of marriage right now, I’ve been planning my wedding since I can remember! The ideal scenario would be getting married six times (to the same man, of course).  I’ve even decided the locations and ceremonies… The first wedding would be at my Dadaji’s house in Ambala. This would be my ‘Big, Fat, Indian Wedding’, which I’d celebrate with my ultra large family, all rituals included. The second would be an underwater wedding at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The third would be at a church in Las Vegas! Ducking tradition, I’d wear a short black dress with the priest dressed as Elvis Presley. The fourth would be an intimate ceremony at a small, beautiful church in Locarno, Switzerland. It’s on top of a hill that overlooks parts of Germany, Italy and Switzerland.  Only family and close friends would be present.

“The curtains, the stolen glances… and finally Kabool hai!”
The fifth would be a nikah. I believe it’s a beautiful, romantic ceremony – the curtains, the stolen glances, the words and finally the acceptance... Kabool hai! The sixth would be of the groom’s choice! If my future groom survives all that, then we’ll survive anything!

“I’d turn into a Bridezilla”
I have different designs in mind for all the various weddings listed above. But knowing me, I’ll end up changing it all at the last minute. Also, I’m all for destination weddings. And one of my dream weddings needs a great destination to host it.With all the preparations, I’d 100 per cent turn into a Bridezilla. That’s what my friends, family and team keep telling me. Since I am such a perfectionist and stickler for the smallest details, all hell will break loose when I’m planning my wedding.

“I’ll have a huge contingent of bridesmaids”
I have a huge family that lives in various parts of the world. I would want to have every single one of them present for my big day. I’ll have a huge contingent of bridesmaids consisting of my two best friends and all my favourite cousins!

“I promise to have the biggest Punjabi wedding ever”
I’d value the advice of my parents as far as marriage is concerned. They’ve had such a wonderful marriage that started off with an interesting wedding. Their advice would be real and coming from genuine experiences. All said, I absolutely love the big fat Indian wedding. There is so much drama, laughter, tears, dancing, eating and madness that I wouldn’t want it any other way. I promise to have the biggest, fattest Punjabi wedding ever!

Man Of Steel

Epic popcorn entertainment
More on: Man Of Steel, Hollywood Review, Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner

Director: Zack Snyde

Cast: Henry Cavill, Russel Crowe, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon

Man Of Steel lays out the importance of Superman’s existence in human history. It’s one of the several reasons why one would want to watch this film. As it goes with most big ticket movies, there are a dozen more reasons why the film doesn’t work. Any film does okay as long as the list of reasons to watch far exceeds the list of reasons to not watch. That is Man Of Steel’s saving grace

This is an epic alright. And if you’ve been an ardent follower of the caped super being, you’d have a bounty of questions. Why is he here? Why does he have his powers? What can he do for Earth? Etc etc. The first half of Man Of Steel is like a parallel to the critically acclaimed TV series Smallville. It shows you how Clark Kent was sent to Earth and how the kid with freakish powers coped with growing on an alien world. The strongest part of this half and in fact the entire film is a young Clark’s constant effort to come to terms with his powers. And then be able to control them and not use them on mere impulse. Scenes between Kevin Costner, who plays Clark’s father Johnathan, and Cooper Timberline (kid Clark), Dylan Sprayberry (teen Clark) and Henry Cavill (adult Clark) are the soul of this film. A particular scene with a tornado setup has a haunting effect on your emotions.

But the film drops this emotional side in the second half and takes up an aggressive, Hollywood Studio mode. It literally transforms into Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon or The Wachowskis’ Matrix Revolutions. A man (Superman) who’s spent 33 years controlling his impulses and his power then uses it as recklessly as Megatron, the bad guy from Transformers. He’s not a very responsible superhero if he’s leveling giant Metropolis buildings and obviously causing great collateral of human life. Yes he’s under the stress of General Zod (Michael Shannon) serving up an equal dose of Kryptonian power. But perhaps the battle could’ve have been taken to less populous regions. Especially since Superman has spent almost all his life learning that his powers unleashed may cause more harm than benefit to humans. And, in what seems like a total disregard for logic, Lois Lane (Amy Adams) is omnipresent in every shot of the epic finale. We’re talking to supermen capable of flight and godly strength leveling an entire city in their brute standoff. And here we have Superman’s girl surviving plane crashes, making it to every nook and corner of the city on foot etc

Having said that, the larger-than-life cinematic punch of the finale is to be seen to be believed. It’s loud, it’s fast and it’s an assault on your senses. But it makes for a bloody good popcorn watch. If this were just any Zack Snyder film you could’ve turned a blind eye. But then this comes endorsed with Chris Nolan’s name too. Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe to an extent carry this mega film on their broad shoulders. Despite their best efforts, this film about the most captivating superheroes of all time lacks a sense of wonder. It’s gritty, it’s jaw dropping but it just doesn’t put that smile on your face. You know the one that Superman always had in the comics, when he put both his hands on the waist and looked like a glorious American icon. It’s just not there.

5 Reasons Why Prabhu Deva is the Next Rohit Shetty

Giving action thrillers in Bollywood a much needed upgrade, Rohit Shetty is the current King of action comedy in Bollywood!
But, he's not the only one trying to blow up a dozen cars on his film set - Prabhu Deva is the 'new kid on the block' who is ready to give Golmaal Shetty a run for his money!
Get ready for some explosions because here are 5 Reasons Why Prabhu Deva is the Next Rohit Shetty!

1. Picking up where we left - there will be explosions - lots of them! Be it Shetty's Golmaal series, Chennai Express or Singham and Deva's Wanted and Rowdy Rathore. If we saw these many flaming cars being wrecked on our humble city roads, we'd be sitting at home

2. The hero enters the frame wearing a blood smeared baniyaan (which looks like a dhobi's nightmare) and proceeds to beat the crap out of the villain and his goon (insert slow motion punches)! The days dhishum dhishum have been left behind in the past!
Explosions aside, these two guys have shown some incredible prowess when it comes to fighting scenes! Bring on the maar-dhaad!

3. Both their movies have such memorable dialogues! Yeh lo examples:
Rowdy Rathore said "Don't angry me"
R...Rajkumar said "Pyaar pyaar pyaar ya maar maar maar"
Rahul said "Don't underestimate the power of a common man"
Singham said "Aata majhi satakli re!"

4. Both Rohit Shetty and Prabhu Deva films have contributed to the trend of songs with funny lyrics!

5. Prabhu Deva's true test of success will come with the release of his latest R...Rajkumar! Can it match up to Rohit Shetty's mammoth box office records?
Yes or no?
